- I have had a PAL formatted DVD for three years of my favorite musical
artist & no way to play it. This particular DVD was never released
on NTSC format so there was no way I could ever view it, until I found
Bruce Forster. He was able to convert my PAL formatted disc into NTSC
so I could view it on my DVD players at home. Thank you Bruce, I couldn't
be more satisfied.

Tell us about North Coast Audio and Video
"I convert almost any audio and video medium to another, such as
from vinyl records, 33, 45 and 78 rpm to CD and DVD technology. I can
take a collection of old Beta tapes and transfer them to enhanced audio
DVD's and even reel-to-reel tapes to other media. I can convert music
CD's to digitally enhanced DVD audio and I back-up and archive music files
by making an 8 hour DVD that will hold an artist's entire catalog on one
disc. Several artist's entire libraries can be put on one 40 hour mp3
DVD. The music DVD can be played on automobile DVD only players. People
who have usb driven turntables have the ability to convert records to
CDs, but the software, while helpful, is severely limited. I can clean
up muddy or flat sounding recordings and transfer the improved and enhanced
audio to the CD or DVD-Audio disc. This process is a substantial improvement
over the commercial software presently available to the consumer. All
of this is done using EBX enhancement that improves the media's performance."
What is EBX enhancement?
"I have known all my life that commercially available recordings
are not made to their full potential. You can only hear 50 to 70 percent
of the material on a music CD. I can overcome that problem using EBX,
or Enhanced Bandwith Expansion. I figured this out in 1999 by accident.
I was repairing a mini-disc recorder and when I put it back together I
made a mistake in reassembly and as a consequence I heard additional information
I didn't know was on the disc. So I began studying how bit mapping works.
Once I came to an intimate understanding of how CD's are encoded I developed
a method of bringing all that information to the surface. EBX is compatible
with all CD, mp3, Windows Media and DVD formats. I can also make customized
media for people with hearing issues."
How do you do this?
"I have Asperger Syndrom. It is a form of autism that for me affects
communication skills. I have different audio sensory wiring. I can be
in a room with 50 people and I can zero in on just two people and separate
their conversation. I can make customized media for people with partial
hearing loss by emphasizing sounds for their individual situation. Sometimes
the music CD I create sounds just terrible to a person with normal hearing
but the hearing impaired person thinks it sounds great. When I enhance
audio I can enhance the entire spectrum."
Do you run into copyright problems?
"I do not violate copyright laws. You are allowed one archival copy
of a piece you own. I have presented the results of my work at consumer
electronics shows in Las Vegas. When someone brings me videos of weddings,
or music DVDs they have made, I can clean up the audio and put the video
on DVD for full distribution. Local songwriters and musicians bring me
their work for final mastering or re-mastering. If you have libraries
of video tapes I can transfer them to enhance DVDs as long as copyright
laws are obeyed."
What has your volume of business been like?
"It fluctuates quite a bit from month-to-month, but some months I
gross over $1,000. I do all the mastering for musician Bobby Horton. I
did his last 8 CDs. He is an Alabama musician who has provided musical
scores for documentary filmmaker, Ken Burns. I also worked with the voice
of James Earl Jones for the US Coast Guard documentary film The Voice
of Gladdened Hearts."
