The 4.5 mile trail parallels the Columbia River estuary. It was developed by the dedicated efforts of the Warrenton Waterfront Revitalization Committee and can be accessed at many locations along Warrenton's waterfront.

This pair was spotted in the trees to the left in this photo at the easily accessed Carruthers Park, at Tansy Point just a couple of miles west of downtown Warrenton.

And this isn't even the best place on the trail to spot wildlife. The trail from Lighthgouse Park in Warrenton to Tansy Point goes along scrub wetlands. Watch and listen for migratory song birds. One of the most biologically diverse areas of the trail is where Alder Creek enters Alder Cove and the Columbia River. The mud of Alder Cove is teeming with life: over 100,000 benthic invertebrates (bugs living in the mud) per square meter are the base of the food chain in Alder Cove. Juvenile salmonids, crabs, diving ducks, dabbling ducks, herons, and raptors use Alder Cove and the fringing marsh around it.

Warrenton Trails Association Mission - Vision Statement

Our Vision: To create, enhance and supoport maintenance of a 25 mile, multiuse trail loop through historically significant public land areas within the City of Warrenton and Clatsop County.

Our Mission: To extablish a trail system by developing, improving and expanding the existing 4.5 mile Warrenton Waterfront Trail, into a 25 mile trail loop, with public cooperation, stewardship, and preservation of the natural resources thereby enhancing area's livability.

Our Goals: To enhance the City of Warrenton's and surrounding area's livability by developing a continuous trail system that would ust the existing Warrenton waterfron trail as a bench mark, and connect to the existing Fort Stevens State Park trail, the future Fort Clatsop to Sea trail, the Warrenton dike and all the areas in between into an approximate 25 multiuse trail loop.
