Captain Robert Gray from Boston sailed into the mouth of the Columbia River in 1792 and began a legacy of discovery for the North Coast of Oregon.

Thirteen years later Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery came over the Rockies and shot the rapids of the Columbia River to arrive from the east on November 7, 1805.

Thirty-one men, one woman and her baby spent that winter in a tiny fort they constructed on the Netul River, a tributary to Young's Bay and the entrance to the Pacific Ocean.

The visitors from the east were met and welcomed by the local natives, the Clatsop Indians. Today's inhabitants of the North Coast are preparing for a new wave of explorers eager to re-discover the natural treasures of the coast, and to learn the full story of the trials and tribulations of Lewis and Clark, Sacagawea, the first Astorians sent by John Jacob Astor, Chinook Chief Concomly, and the Scandenavian settlers that made the mouth of the Columbia home over a century ago.

Let these pages be a sampler of what can be found in the wonderful country, and let North Coast Ambassador Tours be your hosts. We can show you things you never imagined.
