HISTORICAL INTERPRETATION The Columbia River collides with the Pacific Ocean and a unique confluence of American history unfolds. The rich tapestry of historical, cultural, and natural history trhat flourishes here provides a dramatic backdrop for interpreters and presenters. Pacific Northwest Living Historians offers a cadre of interpretation services and training that explore the many stories of the Columbia - Pacific region. FIRST - PERSON, LIVING HISTORY PROGRAMS First-person interpretation fully immerses the interpreter into character portrayal. Current prograkms focus on members of the Lewis and Cloark expedition. We are now doing four programs a year, Dismal Nitch at Dismal Nitch, Clark's Camp at Cape Disappointment, Saltmakers Return in Seaside, and Wintering Over at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. THIRD - PERSON PRESENTERS Third-person presentations are highly developed programs on various themes of the Columbia-Pacific region. PNWLH presenters give talks to tour groups, cruise ship gtuests, local community groups, schools, and as part of programs at the National and State parks. We encourage and promote creative development of historical programs that givbe authentic history of the region. TOUR GUIDES These programs are best for those who are new to providing interpretive programs. Tour guides are provided training and scripts. If you love history, love people, and love sharing yhour passion with others, PNWLH is always seeking to recruit new members to help with charter boat crusses, horseback tours, walking tours, museum tours, and bus tours. CONTEXTUAL INTERPRETERS Contextual interpreters are another great opportunity for those who simply want to be part of our fun programs. Contextuals volunteer at our first-person programs to greet guests and prepare them for their journey back in time. CHAUTAQUA PROGRAMS PNWLH is striving to develop Chautauqua programs - a combination of first-person "performance" often preceded by and ending with the interpreters stepping out of character to address the audience directly. This requires a high level of skill and experience and dedication to program development. We welcome experienced interpreters who are interested in working with PNWLH to develop a series of Chautauqua programs. To join the Pacific Northwest Living Historians, e-mail glorialinkey@aol.com
